Bangladesh has been ranked 13th among 182 countries, scoring 24 out of 100 on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which is below the global average score of 42.
Although the country’s score increased by one point compared to last year, its overall position slipped by one notch in the global ranking, according to Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
In 2024, Bangladesh ranked 14th among the most corrupt nations.
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) released the CPI 2025 on Monday at the MIDAS Centre in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, where the findings were presented by TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman.
The index is based on data collected between November 2022 and September 2025 and assesses perceived levels of public-sector corruption on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 indicates the highest level of corruption and 100 the lowest.
In 2025, Bangladesh scored 24 out of 100, marking a one-point improvement from its score of 23 in the previous year. However, despite the slight increase in score, the country’s global ranking worsened, reflecting persistent challenges in controlling corruption.
Expressing concern over the situation, Iftekharuzzaman said the country was “losing control of corruption” and described the score as “very disappointing”.
The CPI 2025 provides a global snapshot of corruption trends, identifying countries that are improving, declining or stagnating. It also highlights key global, regional and national factors driving corruption.
This year’s index ranks 182 countries and territories worldwide based on perceived levels of public-sector corruption.
