Bangladesh ranks 14th in list of most corrupt countries

Bangladesh has been ranked 14th in the list of the "most corrupt" countries out of 180, according to Transparency International (TI), an international anti-corruption organisation. This marks the lowest score for Bangladesh in the last 13 years.

The country received a score of 23, which is the same as that of Congo and Iran. According to the ranking, Bangladesh is placed at 151st position based on its high-ranking status.

On Tuesday (February 11), at a press conference held at the TI Bangladesh office in Dhanmondi to release the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2024, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman shared the details.

He stated that according to CPI 2024, Bangladesh's score is 23, the lowest in the last 13 years. Based on the score, Bangladesh's position has deteriorated by two places, now ranking 151st out of 180 countries according to high-ranking positions and 14th in terms of low-ranking positions. Bangladesh shares this score and position with Congo and Iran at the 151st place.

In South Asia, Afghanistan has the lowest score and position with 17 points. Following Afghanistan, Bangladesh has the second-lowest score and position in the region.
