Bangladesh reports one dengue death, 382 hospitalisations in a day

Bangladesh has recorded one death from dengue fever, while 382 patients have been hospitalised nationwide in the past 24 hours.

The latest fatality took the death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease to 103 this year, and hospital admissions reached 24,999.

The Directorate General of Health Services’ Tuesday bulletin said the patient who died was undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

The highest number of dengue deaths this year, 41, was recorded in July. The DGHS reported 20 deaths in August already.

In addition, 19 people died in June, 10 in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.

July saw the highest number of dengue hospitalisations this year, with 10,684 admissions. Till Aug 12, another 4,019 patients were admitted.

Moreover, 1,161 patients were admitted to the hospital in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.

The highest number of new patients in the past 24 hours, 118, was in the two city corporations of Dhaka.

In addition, 37 patients were admitted in Dhaka Division, seven in Mymensingh, 64 in Chattogram, 16 in Khulna, 57 in Rajshahi, five in Rangpur, 75 in Barishal, and three in Sylhet.

Currently, 1,263 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals countrywide with dengue. Of them, 395 are admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, and 868 are in hospitals outside Dhaka.

Bangladesh saw 101,211 hospitalisations from dengue in 2024, with 575 deaths, which is the third-highest annual caseload and the second-highest death toll on record.
