Besides, 35 other people were diagnosed with COVID-19 during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 123, said IEDCR director Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora in an online briefing on Monday afternoon.

It is the highest single-day cases the government has so far reported since it reported first three known cases on March 07.

Earlier in the day, the government had put the tally of positive tests at 117 with a death toll of 13. But director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Abul Kalam Azad later revised the figures in the media briefing, citing confusion, a bdnews24.com report adds.

Yesterday, or on Sunday, 18 new cases were reported, which was also the highest in terms of single-day cases until that day.

Again, the day before yesterday, on Saturday, nine new vases were reported, which was the highest-single day cases until that day too.

That means, the country has been witnessing a sharp increase for the last three days.
