Bangladesh signs three agreements, MoU with Argentina

Bangladesh and Argentina, signed three agreements and a MoU on Monday.

The agreement was signed after the bilateral meeting between the visiting Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Mr Santiago Andrés CAFIERO and Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in the city.

Bangladeshi footballers will have the opportunity to get training in Argentina as both the countries have signed an agreement in this regard, Dr Momen told the reporters world briefing about the meeting.

Another two agreements include cooperation between the sports academies of the two countries, and allowing Bangladeshi government officials to travel to Argentina without Visa.

The foreign minister said that both the countries have committed to work together to increase bilateral trade and Bangladesh side has stressed the need for raising its exports to Argentina because the present bilateral trade is in favour of Argentina.

In 2022, bilateral trade with Bangladesh was US$765 million.  Argentine exports reached US$742.9 million and imports from Bangladesh totalled US$22.1 million.  A trade surplus for Argentina of US$720.8 million was registered in 2022.

Earlier, Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero opened the new Argentine Embassy in Dhaka.

With the reopening of the embassy and its consular section, the country seeks to exploit the potential of the bilateral relationship, mainly in the commercial aspect.

Executives from companies - Marolio, Ecofactory, Vetanco, Lipotech, Luna de los Andes, Letis, Santo Pipó, Instituto Nacional de la Yerba Mate (INYM), The Halal Catering Argentina HCB, Havanna, Arcor, Baltazar -Alfa Pampa, Suplefeed, Ronaldb, Club Atlético River Plate and Cargill - are travelling with Cafiero.

On Tuesday, Cafiero will meet Prime Minister of Sheikh Hasina Wazed, which clearly marks the importance this official trip of the chancellor and his entourage is for both countries.

He will also hold a working meeting with the Minister of Commerce, Tipu Munshi on Tuesday.
