Bangladesh is now divided into two opposing camps – a ‘fascist group’ and a ‘Bangladesh group’, NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah said on Saturday, as calls grow for a ban on the Awami League.

Hasnat, chief organiser for the South at NCP (National Citizens’ Party), made the remarks during a rally in Dhaka to push for a number of demands, including outlawing the Awami League.

“Those who want a ban on the Awami League fall under the Bangladesh group, while those who oppose it belong to the fascist group,” he said.

The rally, organised by the NCP, resumed at the Shahbagh intersection in the capital after 3 pm.

Jamaat-e-Islami, the AB Party and Islamic Andolon have expressed support for the NCP’s demands.
