A Bangladeshi migrant has died in the United Arab Emirates, 10 days after being critically injured in a road accident while delivering food.
Rubel Ahmed, 35, from Sylhet's Moglabazar, died on Friday night at Abu Dhabi's Mafraq Hospital, where he had been in intensive care since the collision, according to Abdus Shahid, managing director of his workplace, Click Delivery Service.
Shahid said Rubel had been on his way to deliver an order near the old Al Bateen Airport on Muroor Road at around 12:30 am local time on Nov 19, reports bdnews24.com.
“A truck hit the back of Rubel’s motorcycle and that of another Egyptian rider from a different delivery company. The truck, driven by a Pakistani national, veered out of control. The Egyptian rider died at the scene, and Rubel was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.”
Police later seized the truck and arrested the driver.
Rubel had been living in the UAE for the past five years. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter in Bangladesh.
His body is being kept at Baniyas Mortuary, and his company said it will be repatriated after the UAE National Day holiday, once formalities are completed.
