Two people, including a Bangladeshi migrant, have died after a gas cylinder explosion caused a multi-storey building to collapse in Bahrain.

The Bangladeshi victim has been identified as 42-year-old Shyamal Chandra Shil.

According to local media, the incident took place on Wednesday evening in the Arad area.

Police said that the explosion caused a large section of the three-story building to collapse, trapping several people inside. Rescue teams arrived promptly, pulling out multiple injured people, who were then taken to the hospital for treatment.

In a statement, the Bangladesh Embassy confirmed that it was working with Bahraini authorities to expedite the repatriation of Shyamal's body. The embassy also assured full support to his family.

Expatriates in the area said that several Bangladeshi-owned businesses, including a salon and a laundry shop, were located on the ground floor of the collapsed building. Many people were inside when the accident occurred.
