A Bangladeshi man was killed in firing allegedly by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Sultanpur border in Darshana police station in Chuadanga on Wednesday.
The deceased Ibrahim Khalil Babu, 29, is the son of Nurul Islam of Jhanjhadanga village in Parkrishnapur Madna union of Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga, reports UNB.
The incident took place inside India at the Sultanpur border on Wednesday afternoon, said Local UP member Abdur Rahman.
BGB officials are trying to bring back the body, he added.
Quoting family members, UP member Rahman said that Ibrahim, a tea seller and father of a two-and-a-half-year-old child, had gone to cut grass for cattle in the afternoon when he was shot. Family members were informed of his death, but the body has not yet been recovered.
Darshana Police Station OC Mohammad Shahid Titumir said that family members reported Ibrahim died in BSF firing near the border while working in the field. However, since the body has not been found, official confirmation remains pending.
Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan, commander of Chuadanga 6 BGB, was unresponsive to multiple calls and messages seeking comment on the incident.
