A Bangladeshi student has been killed in a road accident in South Korea’s Yongin City.
The deceased, identified as Mahmud Hasan, 24, hailed from Narsingdi Sadar Upazila in Bangladesh. He was a sixth-semester student in the Department of Business Administration at Daejin University.
According to reports published in South Korean media, the accident occurred early on Sunday morning at an intersection in the Jenggung-ri area of Yongin City, reports bdnews24.com.
Local newspaper Gyeonggi Ilbo stated that Hasan was driving himself home after finishing work that day. While passing through a roundabout in the Jenggung-ri area, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to “excessive speed.”
The car then crashed into a roadside barrier and a tree. Immediately after the crash, the vehicle caught fire.
When informed, several units of firefighters arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control. However, before they could extinguish it, the vehicle had already been gutted completely, and Hasan died at the scene.
Rescue workers recovered his body from inside the car. Police confirmed that the crashed vehicle was powered by conventional fuel and was not an electric vehicle (EV).
Hasan’s classmate, Nadim Noor, said that the two had come to South Korea together in September 2023 for higher education. Hasan had recently obtained his driving license there.
The body has been kept at a local hospital morgue. South Korean police and fire authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
