The World Bank (WB) will help Bangladesh develop content for online education during Covid-19 and recover from its impact in the post-pandemic period, officials said on Monday.
The Washington-based lender will facilitate distance learning, recovery strategy for teachers and students after reopening educational institutions and building resilience from the coronavirus disease, they added.
It has come up with its $15-million grant to help Bangladesh recover from Covid-19's impact on the education system, according to an official of primary and mass education ministry.
"Since coronavirus has forced us to shut educational institutions as a long-term impact on education system, the WB's proposed support will be helpful for the government," he told the FE.
A senior official of economic relations division (ERD) on Monday said negotiations with the WB for its proposed $15-million grants will be held on Wednesday.
"We're hopeful of getting confirmation of the Global Partnership and Education (GEP) grant from the WB shortly for a COVID-19 school-sector response project."
The ministry official said the fund would be utilised to develop content for e-learning and remote education for students during the current the period and beyond.
Learning content for priority subjects in the academic year would be developed aimed at utilising all the media like television, radio (national and community), mobile and internet for virtual schooling.
The WB will help develop e-learning content for Bangla, English and science for first to fifth graders, English, Bangla, general math and general science for sixth to 10th graders.
It will also assist in developing content for Bangladesh studies for sixth to 10th graders and physics and chemistry for ninth to 10th graders.
Under this project, the Ministry concerned will campaign for creating public awareness and introducing a toll-free hotline for students and parents on educational and health queries.
