Bangladeshi Television Journalists Association USA forms new committee

The Bangladeshi Television Journalists Association USA has announced a new committee comprising television journalists of Bangladeshi origin currently based in the United States.
NTV’s US bureau chief Farid Alam has been named president, while Independent Television’s US correspondent SM Solaiman has been made general secretary, according to a press release.
The 11-member executive committee includes former NTV senior news presenter Shamsunnahar Nimmi as vice president, former Banglavision reporter Zahida Alam as co-general secretary, News24’s US correspondent Arifur Rahman as organising secretary, and Now TV’s US correspondent MA Ahad as finance secretary.
The list of non-executive members includes Sohel Mahmud (Probashi TV/RTV), Elias Hossain (15 Minutes/ETV), Sourav Imam (IBTV), Arifuzzaman Arif, and Ahsan Palash.
Three senior journalists have been named as advisers: noted media personality and news analyst Dr Kanak Sarwar; President of the New York Bangladesh Press Club Monowarul Islam; and Shahab Uddin Sagar, former secretary of the America Bangladesh Press Club and editor of Weekly Naba Yug.
The announcement was made by Monowarul Islam at a meeting held at a party hall in Jackson Heights, New York, on the evening of Friday, July 11.
According to organisers, the association primarily consists of those who worked in various television outlets in Dhaka and now reside in the US.
Newly elected president Farid Alam presided over the meeting.
Advisers Monowarul Islam and Shahab Uddin Sagar, vice president Shamsunnahar Nimmi, general secretary SM Solaiman, and co-general secretary Zahida Alam also spoke at the event.
They discussed the goals and values of the association and outlined its future plans.
An inauguration ceremony for the newly formed committee will be held soon, with participation of journalists from both home and abroad, said President Farid Alam.
