Students of the Faculty of Agriculture at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have announced a boycott of all classes and exams to press for their six-point charter of demand to protect the rights of agricultural graduates and eliminate professional discrimination.

They began a protest march around 10:00am on Monday (May 12) from the Faculty of Agriculture Students' Association office. The procession paraded through the faculty corridors and key roads, eventually gathering in front of the administrative building. Over 200 students from various academic years took part in a rally there.

As part of their movement, the students declared that all academic activities, including classes and examinations under the Faculty of Agriculture, would remain suspended from 10:00am on Monday to 3:30pm on Tuesday.

Rafayet, a third-year student, said, "A meeting is scheduled with the Agriculture Secretary at 3:30pm tomorrow (Tuesday) regarding our six-point charter of demands. We're suspending all academic activities until then. If the outcome is not favourable, we'll launch a nationwide blockade with agricultural professionals."

Md Asif, a fourth-year student, said they have long been preparing for speaking out against the neglect of agricultural graduates. "This time, we'll not stay silent. These six demands are not just for our benefit, they're for the future of the country's agricultural system."

Earlier, students of the Faculty of Agriculture submitted a six-point charter of demands protesting alleged discrimination against agriculture graduates and opposing what they termed unreasonable demands from diploma students.
