The Bangladesh Bank Officers' Welfare Council (BBOWC) has warned of launching a protest demanding the resignation of its governor, Dr Ahsan H Mansur, if he does not withdraw the transfer of its three members.
A day after issuing a show-cause notice for arranging a press conference without permission against the governor, the central bank transferred three of the council members outside Dhaka.
In protest of the decision, the BBOWC arranged a protest rally in the BB premises, where they demanded the withdrawal of the transfer order.
Speaking at the rally, council president AKM Masum Billah said they will be forced to go for a protest demanding the resignation of the governor from tomorrow unless the transfer-withdrawal order is issued by today's working hours.
If the withdrawal is issued by today, he said they will observe pen-down programme tomorrow in protest of the governor's resignation.
On Sunday next week, all the associations in the central bank will sit together to chalk out a tougher programme to realise their demand.
Officers from various positions took part in the protest that was observed amid tight security in and outside the central bank.
However, the BB governor was not present in his office while the rally was taking place.
