Bangladesh confirms one more coronavirus death, 112 new cases

The highly infectious coronavirus disease has killed one more person in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 21 in the country.

Meanwhile, the total number of infections has soared to 330 after 112 more people tested positive for COVID-19 during the period, health and family welfare minister Zahid Maleque disclosed the information in a daily health bulletin on Thursday.

It is the highest single-day cases the government has so far confirmed since it reported first three known cases on March 07.

Among the newly infected people, 70 are male and the rest are female.             

In the past 24 hours, 1097 samples were collected from across the country and 905 tested, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Yesterday, or on Wednesday, three new deaths and 54 new cases were reported, which was also the highest single-day cases the government had reported until that day.

As of Thursday noon, a total of 1,521,090 people have been infected by the virus across the world, of whom, 88,565 died and 331,354 recovered, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.

Of the infected, 1,101,171 are currently being treated while 48,160 of them are in serious or critical condition, according to the website.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
