Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Thursday said Bangladesh wants a stable government in India as well as in other countries in the region.

“We want a stable government in India whoever comes to power,” he said while asked to comment on the outcome of the Indian general election.

The minister was talking to the media after a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital.

“India’s friendly relationship with Bangladesh will continue regardless of who comes to power,” he added.

“We have a very warm relationship with all the political parties in India, so we know that our ties will be as friendly as ever,” the minister said.

Dr Momen said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who first made a phone call to congratulate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after her victory in 2019 election.

Responding to a question on the possibility of inking Teesta agreement, the minister said if there is a good tie everything is possible.
