BD lost 25 million working hours worth nearly $1.78b in 2024: WB Report

Bangladesh has lost 25 million working hours worth nearly US$1.78 billion in 2024 due to the impact of heat on health.

The 25 million working hours are also equivalent to 0.3 per cent to 0.4 per cent of the country’s GDP, said the World Bank in a report, launched in Dhaka today.

It said Bangladesh may lose 4.9 per cent of its GDP by 2030.

The heat affects the mental health as well as the Productivity.

The report said the rate of cold-related diseases, diarrhoea, and depression is much higher in the summer season compared to the winter in the country.

Dhaka is more vulnerable than other cities and rural areas in Bangladesh.
