State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Sunday said Bangladesh wants to send trained IT engineers to Japan, the third most attractive IT market in the world, as the island nation is experiencing a shrinking manpower.

He made the remarks while addressing a certificate-awarding ceremony for the 1st batch trainees of the "Bangladesh-Japan ICT Engineers' Training Programme (B-JET)' at the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Auditorium in the city.

The BCC in association with JICA Bangladesh Office organised the event.

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Hiroyasu IZUMI was present at the programme as special guest while JICA Chief Representative Takatoshi Nishikata and BCC Executive Director were also present on the occasion.

Palak congratulated the trainees and deeply encouraged the IT engineers and companies to take the shrinking manpower in Japan as a great opportunity to increase Bangladesh's export.

Citing the findings of several surveys conducted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), he said competitive wages, low energy prices and cheap production cost have turned Bangladesh into the top investment destination for Japanese companies.

JETRO conducted the surveys on over 20 countries in Asia and Oceania, which found Bangladesh as the most lucrative investment destination both in manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors, he said, reports UNB.

Takatoshi Nishikata said Japan will face a huge shortage of IT engineers in the upcoming days. "So, we're collaborating with the BCC to train talented Bangladeshi youths so that they can cope up with the Japanese market. I hope the participants of B-JET will lead the IT sector of Japan in near future."
