Speakers at a seminar highlighted the rapid expansion of the global gaming industry, now valued at $200 billion-surpassing both the music and film industries combined-and its potential to establish a strong foothold in Bangladesh.

As one of the fastest-growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region, Bangladesh stands to benefit greatly from the gaming sector, offering a unique opportunity to diversify its digital economy and contribute significantly to the national GDP.

Tencent, a global leader in internet technology, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Intellectual Property Forum (BIPF), hosted the event titled "Maximising the Potential of the Gaming Industry in Bangladesh" at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka on Wednesday.

The event brought together key stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and the gaming community to explore the vast opportunities within the gaming sector to drive economic growth, create job opportunities, and foster innovation in Bangladesh.

Yee Ler Lau, head of public affairs, APAC at Tencent, emphasised the transformative power of the gaming industry, stating, "Gaming is much more than entertainment. It is a powerful economic engine that drives job creation, fosters technological innovation, and connects people globally.

"Bangladesh, with its youthful, tech-savvy population and growing digital infrastructure, is well-positioned to capitalise on the immense opportunities presented by the global gaming market. Tencent looks forward to collaborating with local partners to help develop Bangladesh's gaming and digital ecosystem for the benefit of its communities and the broader economy."

ABM Hamidul Misbah, founder of BIPF, echoed this sentiment, stating, "Bangladesh's gaming industry is at a critical juncture. With the right policies, investments, and collaboration between the public and private sectors, we can unlock its full potential.

"This seminar marks an important step towards creating a sustainable ecosystem that will not only drive economic growth but also empower our youth with valuable skills and career opportunities in game development, esports, and other related fields."
