Betrayed and Brutalised: Tangail woman sexually assaulted after seeking help

It was meant to be a simple journey. A 22-year-old woman from Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria, travelling alone, mistakenly boarded the wrong train.

What followed was a night of unimaginable horror, one that laid bare the darkest depths of human betrayal and cruelty.

Arriving at Gharinda Station near Tangail Railway Station around 12:30am on Friday, the young woman found herself stranded, confused and frightened.

Seeking help, she turned to the railway police who sworn to protect. In a tragic twist of fate, her plea for assistance became the beginning of her ordeal.

A police officer at the station entrusted her to a local CNG auto-rickshaw driver, Dulal Chandra Das, 28, hoping he would guide her to safety. But instead of offering help, Dulal became a predator.

Along with two other CNG drivers -- Rupu Mia, 27, and Sajib Khan, 19, -- they took the defenceless woman into a wooded area nearby. There, they gang-raped her without mercy. The torment did not end in the darkness of the trees; the woman was later taken to Rupu’s house, where the abuse continued.

The trio -- residents of Brahmankushia Sutar Para in Tangail Sadar upazila—left her back at the railway station at around 2:30am, as though nothing had happened. Traumatised and in shock, the woman gathered the courage to walk into the railway police outpost and recount her brutal experience.

Quickly responding to her complaint, Tangail Sadar Police Station arrested all three accused.

“We have received the complaint and arrested the accused. They will be produced before court,” said officer-in-charge Tanvir Ahmed.

“The process of sending the victim to Tangail Medical College Hospital for medical examination is underway,” he added.
