The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has directed all banks and financial institutions to freeze the accounts of Salman F Rahman, a former adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and vice-chairman of Beximco Group, as well as those of his son, Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman, and daughter-in-law, Shazreh Rahman.
In a letter issued on Wednesday, the BFIU directed the banks and financial institutions to freeze transactions for 30 days in any accounts held by them or entities they control, citing the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
The letter also restricts the use of any lockers in their names for the same period.
The BFIU’s directive includes the names and national identification details of Salman F Rahman, his son, and daughter-in-law.
Banks and financial institutions have also been instructed to submit related documents, including account opening forms, KYC information, and transaction records, within five working days.
