BGB-BSF talks begin Tuesday

Director General-level border talks between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force of India (BSF) will begin at BGB Pilkhana headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.

A 10-member Indian delegation led by BSF director general KK Sharma arrived in Dhaka on Monday to attend the talks.

The formal talks will end on Thursday following signing a Joint Record of Discussion, said public relations officer of the BGB headquarters Mohsin Reza.

BGB DG Major General Md Shafeenul Islam will lead the 15-member Bangladesh delegation in the conference, reports UNB.

Like previous DG-level conferences, the Bangladesh side will give more emphasis on stopping border killings, said Reza.

Various border-related issues, including the smuggling of drugs and arms and ammunition, setting up of effluent treatment plant inside India of Akhaura International Check Post (ICP) and enhancing mutual confidence between the two border forces are likely to come up for discussion, added he.

Besides, both the DGs will jointly inaugurate Joint Retreat Ceremony at Banglabandha ICP of Panchagar on April 27 and the Indian delegation will leave Bangladesh on the same day.

Meanwhile, a four-member delegation of BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) will visit various activities of Simanta Paribar Kallyan Samity (SPKS). The BWWA has been running by the Indian BSF, while SPKS by BGB.
