Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has said some reports on some media outlets about its Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui's upcoming visit to India tarnished the image of the force, saying, "It is not a secret matter."
"Such news in some media outlets is tarnishing the image of the BGB and also creating confusion in the public mind," said the BGB in its immediate reaction over the matter in the forces' verified Facebook page on Friday.
It also said that the news published in some media outlets in the country under the title 'Secrecy over BGB chief's India visit, storm of criticism on social media' has come to the attention of the force, according to BSS and bdnews24.com.
Commenting that such reports not only tarnish the image of the BGB but also creating confusion among the public, the border security force said that conference to be held in mid-February was announced in a Facebook post on Dec 27.
The BGB has requested everyone to "refrain from posting misinformation or misleading information" under the circumstances.
The border conference is to be held in New Delhi from Feb 17-21, according to the BGB’s verified Facebook page.
"In addition to the BGB, representatives of all other relevant ministries and agencies of the country will also participate. There is no secrecy involved and no attempt has been made by the BGB to maintain secrecy."
