Biman aircraft seized on allegation of carrying smuggled gold

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate officials seized an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on the allegation of carrying smuggled gold on Thursday.

The step was taken following the seizure of a consignment of gold bars, weighing 2.320 kgs, under the seat of the plane, Boeing 777-ER, at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram in the morning.

The flight, BG-148, landed at the Chattogram airport on Thursday morning from the United Arab Emirates.

After the landing, a team of Customs Intelligence and National Security Intelligence (NSI) conducted a joint drive inside the aircraft and seized the gold worth about Tk 26 million. A passenger was also detained during the drive.
