BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is holding his first formal press conference following the party’s sweeping victory in the parliamentary election.

The briefing started at 3pm on Saturday at the ballroom of the InterContinental Dhaka.

At 3:26pm, the BNP chief, dressed in a black coat and wearing a smile, entered the hall to a standing ovation from party leaders present.

He raised his hand to greet journalists before taking his seat on the stage alongside Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

This marks Tarique’s first full-scale press conference after the election.

He returned to Bangladesh on Dec 25 last year following more than 17 years in self-imposed exile in London.

Since his return, he has attended an interaction session with editors and senior journalists at a hotel in Banani, where he delivered remarks and responded to questions.

On polling day, he also spoke twice to reporters after casting his vote at Gulshan Model High School and College and visiting several centres across the capital.

Until now, he, however, had not convened a formal media briefing.

Seated beside him at the event is Mirza Fakhrul. On the stage are Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Selima Rahman and Hafizuddin Ahmed.
