The BNP is holding a training workshop for its members of parliament from Dhaka and two other divisions ahead of the first session of the 13th parliament.

The programme was inaugurated at 10am on Saturday at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan by party Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, reports bdnews24.com.

MPs from the Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Faridpur divisions are taking part in the morning session. At the same time, lawmakers from Sylhet, Cumilla and Chattogram are expected to attend the concluding session in the afternoon.

Among those present in the morning session were BNP Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, along with Vice-Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan and senior leader Osman Faruk, among others.

The two-day workshop began on Friday with its inauguration by Prime Minister and leader of the house, Tarique Rahman.

Ministers, state ministers and advisors took part in the first day’s sessions, while MPs from the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka and Faridpur divisions joined the afternoon programme.

A lawmaker attending the workshop said the programme was organised to familiarise BNP MPs with parliamentary rules, procedures and other related matters.

The first session of the parliament is scheduled to begin at 11am on Mar 12.

Of the 209 MPs elected from the BNP in the Feb 12 election, 146 are first-time lawmakers.

BNP leaders say the workshop will cover topics including parliamentary procedures, codes of conduct, drafting and reviewing bills, analysing budget documents and the functioning of parliamentary committees.

Experienced MPs will share their knowledge with newly elected lawmakers as part of the programme, which the party says is aimed at preparing its MPs ahead of the upcoming parliamentary session.

Parliamentary experts, academics and senior lawmakers are also taking part in the workshop, outlining the roles and responsibilities of MPs and cabinet members in ensuring the effective functioning of parliament.
