A Dhaka court has acquitted BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), as the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against him.
Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 delivered the verdict on Wednesday, court clerk Zahidur Rahman said, reports BSS.
The judgment came after both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments on July 16.
The ACC had filed the case with Ramna Police Station on October 9, 2014. Then ACC Deputy Director Md Manjur Morshed accused Annie of concealing information on wealth worth Tk 1.31 million and amassing illegal wealth amounting to Tk 14 million.
The court framed charges against Annie on May 24, 2016, and heard testimonies from nine prosecution witnesses during the trial.
