Police have arrested BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, the party says.
He was arrested at a residence on Elephant Road in Dhaka city on Thursday afternoon, Prothom Alo reports, quoting BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar.
The Bangla-language daily adds that it contacted several officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) about Annie’s arrest, but none could confirm his arrest until 7pm.
Meanwhile, Annie’s brother Happy Chowdhury also confirmed his arrest, according to the report.
