A Dhaka court has declared BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, son of former mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, as the mayor, nullifying the results of the 2020 Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election.
Judge Md Nurul Islam of Dhaka Election Tribunal-15 delivered the judgment today (Thursday) after defeated candidate Ishraque filed a lawsuit, seeking cancellation of the "so-called election".
Earlier, on August 19 of the previous year, the government dismissed the mayors of 12 city corporations, including Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh of DSCC and Atiqul Islam of DNCC, from their positions.
Advocate Anisur Rahman confirmed to the media that the judge also declared the February 1, 2020 election null and void.
Ishraque Hossain, who was present in court during the judgment, expressed his satisfaction with the ruling.
