BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan has joined the daily Shomoyer Alo as advisory editor.
He formally took up the role at the newspaper’s office in Bangla Motor on Thursday afternoon, where acting editor Shahnewaz Karim and other staff members welcomed him with flowers.
Earlier in the day, Amin Group Managing Director Md Ramzanul Haque Nihad handed over the appointment letter to Shayrul in Dhanmondi.
Born in Netrokona, Shayrul began his career in journalism with the Daily Dinkal.
He is also among the founders of the Netrokona Press Club.
Alongside journalism, he has long been active in politics aligned with the BNP, and has served as a member of the party chairperson’s media wing and the chairman’s media cell.
He regularly writes columns and political analyses in various newspapers and online platforms.
A documentary on the Liberation War was produced under his planning and direction, with its cover unveiled by former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Reacting to his new role, Shayrul said he wants to remain active in journalism and writing.
He hoped that the initiatives undertaken to move the country forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will benefit the people, the media, and help establish democracy.
“I also hope the daily Shomoyer Alo will move forward with the goal of practising responsible and healthy journalism,” he added.
