Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has rejected the proposed national budget for the next fiscal year (2024–25), terming it baseless, tax- and loan-dependent, and looter-friendly.
The Awami League government proposed this budget to legitimise their own theft, the party said while giving its formal reaction to the budget during a press briefing at its chairperson’s office in Dhaka city’s Gulshan on Sunday.
Reading out a written statement, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that there is no relief for the common people in the budget; it has been designed only for a few oligarchs who are not only stealing but also making policies and running the country.
BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, and BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Ismail Jabiullah, among others, were present at the press conference.
