Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said the BNP would not be spared if the party chooses the path of terrorism.
"If the BNP and its allies come up with any political agenda, they will be countered with our political agenda. But, if the party chooses the path of terrorism, they will not be spared," Quader said at a press conference at the political office of the Awami League in Dhanmondi.
A local media outlet quoted Quader as telling the press meet, "BNP has made a great mistake by not participating in the elections, and they must face the consequences."
Regarding the upazila elections, the Awami League general secretary said if lawmakers and ministers interfere in the polls, they would be punished for violating party directives.
Referring to 73 MPs in the last parliament not getting party tickets in this year's elections and 25 members of the last cabinet failing to secure berths on the current cabinet, he said those who would not comply with party directives could face punishment in various ways.
Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organising secretaries Mozammel Haque, SM Kamal Hossain, Mirza Azam and Md Afzal Hossain, among others were also present.
