BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned of a conspiracy surrounding the general election, urging unity among communities to safeguard Bangladesh’s democratic process.

Speaking at the first national representative assembly of the Nationalist Ethnic Minority Group in Mymensingh, Fakhrul said a group is working to sabotage the election by creating divisions under the pretext of extremism.

He called for all communities, small and large, to unite under the leadership of Tarique Rahman to protect the country’s sovereignty and rights.

Fakhrul highlighted the party’s Rainbow Bangladesh plan as a way to move forward in unity.

At the event, held at the Tarique Memorial Auditorium in the city’s Town Hall, Fakhrul was joined virtually by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique.

Tarique said ethnic minorities had played a significant role in combating “autocracy or fascism”, despite facing attacks and lawsuits.

He added that “an opportunity has come to establish the rights of every citizen in an autocracy-free Bangladesh.”

Calling for active support and cooperation from all in the national vote, Tarique said the BNP seeks to build a safe Bangladesh for everyone, regardless of party, opinion, religion, or ethnicity.
