Canadian police have recovered the body of a Bangladeshi-born teenager who went missing a month ago in Toronto.

The local newspaper The London Free Press reported that the remains were discovered on a beach in Port Bruce on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Nidhua Muktadir, 19, was a second-year nursing student at Fanshawe College.

She was the daughter of Samina Nasrin Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi writer and presenter residing in Canada.

Nidhua had been living with her family in Scarborough’s Crescent Town, since moving to Canada at the age of nine.

According to the local daily, she was reported missing from the London area of Ontario on Dec 4.

A day before her disappearance, she was last seen one day earlier on Hawk Cliff Road about five kilometres northeast of Port Stanley, prompting a large-scale search of the area involving OPP divers and drones.

The Ontario Provincial Police identified the body on Tuesday, which was discovered by a citizen on Saturday at Waneeta Beach.

They said no unusual marks were found on her body.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death.

Nidhua's brother, Abraham Mukhtadir, said: “Police have found my sister’s body. She was very brave and strong-willed.

“Our family is going through a very difficult time after losing her.”

Nidhua's mother, Samina said the last phone conversation with her daughter took place on Nov 29.
