The body was identified as that of Imran Nobel Pramanik, a student in the Department of Islamic Studies from the 2016-17 academic year. He hailed from Gaibandha’s Sundarganj Thana, bdnews24.com reports.

The body was recovered around 10:45am on Sunday from a six-storey building, said Golam Mortuja, chief of Gendaria Police Station.

He said, “Based on the report from his roommates, we went to the scene and found the body hanging from the fan with a towel. We have spoken to his family.

“Our initial suspicion is he died by suicide. The door was locked from the inside. After speaking with the family, we have learnt that he as mentally depressed.”

Jagannath University Proctor Dr Muhammad Tazammol Hoque said he went to the police station after hearing of Imran’s death.

“Three of them lived together in the shared accommodation. Two of them went home for the elections. He was alone in the house,” he said.

Imran’s body is being sent to the morgue for a post-mortem. Police will hand it over to the family afterwards.
