11-year-old boy detained for ‘attempted rape’ of 4-year-old girl

Police have taken an 11-year-old boy into custody for allegedly attempting to rape a 4-year-old at Nayabazar area in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka.

The victim has been admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital following the incident on Sunday afternoon, according to Keraniganj Model Police Station chief Sohrab Al Hossain.

“Around 1:30 pm on Sunday, the boy went to the rooftop, saying he would water the plants. He took the child along with him. In the evening, the parents realised what had happened and rushed the child to the hospital. The boy was taken into custody based on their verbal complaint. However, no case has been filed yet,” Sohrab said.

The child was initially taken to Old Dhaka's Mitford Hospital, but was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 12:45 am on Monday, according to the victim's aunt.

She did not make any further comments about the incident.
