Unidentified miscreants set fire to a section of railway tracks in Brahmanbaria early Thursday, disrupting train movement.

The incident occurred around 1:45 am at the Dublar area in Basudeb Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila. Train services on the route were halted for a short period following the fire.

Due to the incident, two Chattogram-bound trains — Turna Nishitha and Bijoy Express — were temporarily stopped at Brahmanbaria Railway Station.

However, train services resumed within about 30 minutes once the fire was brought under control.

Akhaura Railway Junction Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Shafiqul Islam said miscreants had set fire to plastic pipes placed on the tracks.

“We rushed to the spot after receiving the report, but the miscreants fled before our arrival,” he added.

Train operations later returned to normal.
