Broadband internet to go all unions by 2018: Minister

Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has expressed his hope to bring every union under optical fibre broadband internet connection by 2018.

The minister also plans to make internet super highway across the country.

He made the remarks while addressing the Digital ICT Fair inauguration programme at Elephant road area of Dhaka on Wednesday.

Mustafa Jabbar said Wifi internet facilities will be ensured in universities and market areas.

The minister said Bangladesh has already reached in leading position in ICT sector following implementation of Digital Bangladesh programme.

"Different countries including police department of Ireland are using Bangladeshi software, he said.

"Our software engineers from the country are providing security in one thousand residential flats in Japan. We are also going to export computer in Nepal and Nigeria from this month," Mustafa Jabbar.

The minister said the country has brought revolutionary change in ICT sector.

"The country is earning 800million USD from IT sector. Around 85 million people are using internet," he said.

According to UNB, Mustafa Jabbar pointed out that they are also working for ensuring internet security along with its expansion.

"We will be able to ensure security in internet soon. We have no technology to manage Facebook now. We will be able to gain it in the middle of the year," he added.
