A father and son have been killed after a Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus hit their motorcycle in Chattogram’s Fatikchhari Upazila, triggering a retaliatory arson attack on the vehicle.
The accident occurred near Amtol under Paindong Union on the Chattogram–Khagrachhari regional highway, police said.
Following the incident, local residents set the bus on fire.
The dead have been identified as Md Shahjahan, 50, and his 18-year-old son Md Arif, both residents of Korballa Tila in Ward No. 2 of the union.
Fatikchhari Police chief Md Robiul Alam Khan said a bus coming from Khagrachhari towards Chattogram hit the motorcycle they were riding.
He said both died on the spot after being thrown onto the road following the impact. Following the crash, local people damaged the bus before setting it ablaze.
Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel later arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.
The bus driver has been detained following the incident, police officer Robiul added.
Local journalists said the victims used to run a motorcycle garage near Brindabonhat and were on their way to work when the crash occurred.
Residents have long complained that frequent accidents occur on the road due to speeding vehicles.
