A double-decker bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) was badly damaged on Tuesday after its upper level smashed against a pier cap of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE) ramp at Farmgate, Dhaka, injuring several passengers.
The accident which took place at about 11:30 am caused the upper deck of the bus to bend backward, said witnesses. The bus was heading for Mirpur from Kadamtoli.
Local people said several accidents occurred on the same spot earlier as the height of the extended part attached to the pillar is not
sufficient for double-deckers to pass safely. The injured passengers were administered first aid.
BRTC formed a three-member committee to inquire into the accident, headed by its General Manager (Technical), with two other members from operation and mechanical departments. The bus along with the driver has been dispatched to the Gabtoli depot after police inspection.
