Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has started operating its buses on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway.

Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri inaugurated the bus service during an event at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka on Monday morning. BRTC Chairman M Tajul Islam was also present at the inaugural event, according to local news portals.

After the inauguration, the first bus left from Farmgate's Khejur Bagan Golchattar for Uttara Jasimuddin Road at 11:25 am.

Initially, a total of eight buses will carry passengers and commuters can board the buses from both ends of the expressway.

The buses will run all days from 7:00 am in the morning and will continue as long as passengers are available.

According to some newspaper reports, a bus passenger will be charged Tk 35 for his/her journey from Khejur Bagan to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) using the expressway.

The bus fare will be Tk 40 if anyone travels from Khejur Bagan to Jasimuddin Road.

The buses will take passengers from stations at Jasimuddin Road, the airport and Kaola in the Uttara area of Dhaka. After boarding buses from these three stations, passengers will be taken directly to Farmgate.

Meanwhile, Uttara-bound passengers can travel from stations at Khejur Bagan Golchattar, Khamar Bari, and Bijoy Sarani.

On last September 2, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 11.5-kilometre section of the expressway from Dhaka’s Farmgate to Kawla next to the Airport via Tejgaon and 13 ramps to vehicular traffic.

About 80,000 vehicles will be able to use Dhaka Elevated Expressway every day once it is completed, project officials said.

When fully completed, the Dhaka Elevated Expressway will run from the capital’s Kawla to Kutubkhali area of Dhaka-Chattogram highway via Kuril-Banani-Mohakhali-Tejgaon-Moghbazar-Kamalapur-Sayedabad-Jatrabari.
