The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has announced that they will transition fully to an online-based licensing system starting on May 17, marking World Telecommunication Day.
From that day, all licenses will be issued, renewed, or corrected exclusively through the Licensing Management System (LIMS) portal, replacing the previous practice of issuing hardcopy licenses.
In a circular issued recently, the BTRC said this initiative is part of its effort to digitize and streamline service delivery, aiming to make the licensing process more transparent, efficient, and accessible.
According to the notice, applications for new licenses, license renewals, change of address, and corrections will only be accepted through the LIMS portal. The commission emphasised that no manual or offline applications will be processed after the transition.
All existing license holders, registration certificate holders, and enlistment certificate holders have urgently been instructed to create a user account on the LIMS platform and update or submit their organizational information and necessary documentation without any delay.
The issuance of e-licenses will be contingent upon the receipt of these updated records, said the circular. BTRC officials noted that this move reflects the government's broader Digital Bangladesh agenda, which aims to digitize public services and enhance e-governance.
The LIMS platform is expected to reduce processing time, minimize bureaucratic delays, and offer real-time application tracking to users. The circular concludes by stating that this decision was taken with the approval of the appropriate authorities and urges all parties concerned to comply promptly.
