A student at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology or BUET has been missing for the past five days.

The pupil, 24-year-old Mahmudul Hasan Tanvir, is a Masters student of the university’s Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, or IPE. He was residing at the university’s Shahid Smrity Hall.

He went missing after leaving his family’s house at Purba Azampur in Dhaka’s Dakshin Khan for his dormitory around 3:30pm on May 17.

On May 19, Tanvir’s mother Sharmin Sultana filed a general diary with Dakshin Khan Police Station over the incident.

“My elder son, Mahmudul Hasan Tanvir, returned home from the hall on May 14. He left home again for the dormitory on May 17. Around 9pm that night his phone was switched off,” said Sultana.

“We rushed to the hall afterwards and checked with his friends and relatives and even filed a GD, but there is still no trace of him.”

On Tuesday, Dakshin Khan police chief Sheikh Aminul Bashar said law enforcers have yet to find the student. “The police are searching for him in different ways. A police team will visit BUET tomorrow to talk with his classmates. We are working on the matter,” he added.
