Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Wednesday boycotted their classes and staged a demonstration in front of the vice-chancellor's (VC) office protesting against an expelled student's return to the campus.

They also demanded cancellation of the registration of Ashikul Islam Bitu, who was expelled over Abrar Fahad murder, with BUET.

Recently, a High Court (HC) order suspended Bitu's expulsion from BUET.

Afterwards Bitu went to the Chemical Engineering Department of BUET for joining classes and students boycotted classes over his presence. At around 10:30 am, they staged a sit-in in front of the VC office that continued for around three hours.

Later the agitating students met VC Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumder and urged him to fulfill their demand as early as possible.

The Board of Residence and Discipline of BUET permanently expelled 26 students who are accused in Abrar Fahad murder case on the basis of the report of the inquiry committee and Ashikul Islam Bitu is one of them.

"He joined a class and later we heard that he received a stay order from the court against his expulsion and the BUET authorities permitted him to join class," said a student.
