Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) held a procession on Tuesday, calling for initiatives to meet their three demands.
The students announced their demands at a press conference held in front of the administrative building of BUET.
The demands are: to be appointed as a 9th-grade engineer or assistant engineer, candidates must pass the recruitment exam and hold at least a BSc degree in engineering and no promotions should be granted through quotas; the post of 10th-grade technical or sub-assistant engineer must be open to both BSc engineering graduates and diploma holders; and legal action should be taken against individuals who use the title "engineer" without holding a BSc in engineering.
The students criticised the BUET administration for remaining silent on the issue. They called on the administration to send a formal letter to the relevant ministry, outlining their demands.
