Police have recovered the burnt body of an unidentified woman from the side of a road in Chattogram's Sitakunda.
The incident took place on Saturday night in the Abdullahghata area, close to the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway.
Police said that the initial accounts from witnesses suggest the woman took her own life by dousing herself in kerosene and setting herself on fire, reports bdnews24.com.
Inspector Md Sohel Rana of the Faujdarhat Police Outpost said that residents saw flames by the roadside and alerted police.
“She died at the scene from severe burns. Locals have been unable to identify her,” he added.
The woman is thought to have been around 45 years old.
Police have sent the body to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
