A man has been hacked to death in Jashore's Benapole, with his family claiming he was a grassroots activist of the BNP.
The attack took place in the early hours of Friday at Chhoto Anchra village, according to Russell Mia, chief of Benapole Port Police Station.
The victim was identified as 34-year-old Mizanur Rahman Sardar, son of Hanif Ali Sardar.
Police said his body was being prepared to be sent to Jashore General Hospital for a post-mortem examination, reports bdnews24.com.
His brother, Khairul Sardar, said Mizanur worked as a butcher at a meat shop at the Benapole Checkpost.
"Around 2:45 am, someone called him on his mobile. He went out with the knife he used for work. Later, we found him at the gate with his throat slashed.”
“My brother was a BNP activist. He had no enmity with anyone.”
Police said the motive remained unclear.
“It is not possible to say why he was killed before an investigation,” Russell Mia said.
Efforts are under way to catch those responsible, he added.
