Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for the constitution of a high-level committee for the overall management of all matters during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

The committee will look into ensuring fair prices for the rawhides of sacrificial animals, proper animal transportation, waste management, and other related issues, he said.

Prof Yunus gave the directives at a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday, CA’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told BSS.

Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam attended the meeting.

The chief adviser said that for a long time, it has been observed that people are being deprived of fair prices for the rawhides of sacrificial animals.

As a result, he said, the poor people of society—who are largely dependent on the money from the sale of rawhides—suffer the most. This mismanagement needs to end, he added.

Mentioning that a syndicate is controlling the price of animal hides, the chief adviser said the interim government will try its best to ensure that people are not deprived of fair prices due to any syndicate or mismanagement.

Prof. Yunus instructed all concerned to give special importance to ensuring that no cruelty is shown to sacrificial animals during their transportation and sale in cattle markets.

He also emphasised the proper use of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) in processing rawhides.

The chief adviser ordered the formation of a high-level committee under the leadership of Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin to implement the directives.

The committee will include Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam, Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on the Ministry of Home Affairs Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, and representatives from religious institutions and the leather industry as members.
