Job aspirants eliminated from 43rd BCS gazette gather at Secretariat to file reconsideration appeals

Over 200 job candidates who were excluded from the 43rd Bangladesh Civil Service, or BCS, have gathered at the Secretariat to submit reconsideration appeals to the Ministry of Public Administration.

The candidates came to the Secretariat on Sunday not only to inquire about the reasons for their exclusion but also to clarify their position and submit their applications for reconsideration, bdnews24.com. 

Raihan Noor, one of the excluded candidates, said at the Secretariat gate: "We have come to submit our applications as per the instructions of the public administration ministry. We are not involved in any anti-state activities."

He added, "The criteria under which we have been excluded must be clearly stated. Otherwise, we demand that we be included in the final gazette for the 43rd BCS job list by the 6th, and our appointment must be finalised along with others by the 15th."

The Public Service Commission, or PSC, had recommended the recruitment of 2,163 people through this BCS.

However, 40 were excluded due to absence from health checks, and 59 others were excluded based on intelligence reports.

The final notification was issued on Oct 15.

The Ministry of Public Administration later said that after questions were raised about the legitimacy of the recruitment, a re-evaluation of candidates was conducted through intelligence agencies.

As many as 227 individuals were excluded as their re-evaluation reports were negative, along with the 40 others who had missed the health check.

A revised notification was issued on Dec 30, confirming the appointment of 1,896 candidates.

Ujjal Hossain, senior assistant secretary at the ministry, told bdnews24.com on Thursday: "Those who have been temporarily considered unfit for recruitment due to negative comments in the character reports will be allowed to submit reconsideration applications. The opportunity for reconsideration is open to all."

Hare Krishna Barman, one of the candidates submitting an appeal, said: "As per the instructions of the Ministry of Public Administration, we are submitting our applications. We will submit and leave."

The PSC had recommended the recruitment of 2,163 candidates from the 43rd BCS, which was first advertised on Nov 30, 2020.

The final recommendation for appointment was scheduled for Jan 25, 2024.
