Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, on Tuesday announced that all areas of bus terminals will be monitored through CCTV and electronic surveillance to prevent snatching and passenger harassment, leaving no blind spots.

He made the remarks during a press briefing on Tuesday after inspecting and inaugurating CCTV-based monitoring activities at the Sayedabad Bus Terminal in Dhaka, UNB reports.

During the visit, the adviser observed a shortage of CCTV cameras in bus terminals and urged the relevant authorities to promptly increase the number of cameras.

Additionally, he instructed city corporation officials to take immediate measures to enhance cleanliness at the terminals.

Addressing the upcoming Eid journey, he said that the government would provide full support to ensure a hassle-free travel experience for passengers. He also called upon bus owners to step up their operations to accommodate the increased demand.

Highlighting the issue of traffic congestion, the adviser stressed the need for proper terminal management, saying, “There is sufficient space in bus terminals, but it must be utilised effectively. Passengers should board buses from terminals, not from the streets. When buses pick up passengers from the roads, it worsens traffic congestion, especially during Eid, causing immense public suffering.”

The inspection was attended by Adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury, and the Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, among other officials.
